The Nerdy Dutch
Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a DJ.
I grew up in a true hospitality family in the Netherlands — from bar to nightclub to restaurant — so music, nightlife and entertainment were part of my life long before I even realized it. Every bit of pocket money went straight into music: vinyl, cassette tapes, CDs… if it made sound, I wanted it.
Then came the computer. Or, more accurately… the computerrrr!
When my parents brought home a Commodore Amiga 500, I discovered ProTracker and became completely obsessed. I spent countless nights experimenting with music, samples and remixes. MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” probably suffered more than most.
From there, the DJ obsession only got worse.
I started mixing with vinyl, moved on to CDs and the legendary Technics SL-P1200, and later to the first generation of CDJs. What started as a childhood fascination turned into decades of collecting, mixing, DJing, producing and remembering far too much useless information about music.
That last part has become something of a family joke.
I can’t just listen to a record. I hear the sample. The bassline. The drum pattern. The old track hiding somewhere underneath. And whenever I enthusiastically explain where something came from, my kids usually have the same response:
“Yesssss dad, we knooow!”
Fair enough.
Today I make music as DJ Le Nerd, a Dutch DJ and music producer from Purmerend, Netherlands.
My music doesn’t fit neatly into one box — and I like it that way. House, dance and disco are a big part of what I do, but you’ll also hear influences from funk, soul, R&B, pop, yacht rock and the music I grew up with.
Sometimes it becomes a dancefloor track. Sometimes a remix. Sometimes something completely different.
The common thread is simple: groove, melody, energy and a love for music with character.
Tracks like “Back In The Days (Dance Edit)”, “TADISCO”, “House you doing?” and “You’re Looking Fine” are all different sides of the same musical nerd. Alongside my dance releases, I also produce original music that wanders outside the club whenever the song wants to go somewhere else.
So where did the name Le Nerd come from?
My real name is Lennart, but back in elementary school that quickly became “Lennerdddd”. Add the glasses, gadgets, computers and an unhealthy amount of music knowledge and, looking back, the evidence was pretty overwhelming.
I was a nerd long before being a nerd was cool.
Years later I decided to stop fighting it and turn it into the name.
DJ Le Nerd was born.
I’m not here to fill this page with a list of clubs, names and places just to prove I’ve been around. For me, DJing has always been about what happens when the music connects with people.

That moment when a room changes.
When somebody recognizes a groove.
When heads start nodding.
When the dancefloor suddenly comes alive.
That’s still the best part.
After all these years, I’m still discovering music, still making tracks, still DJing and still annoying my family by identifying samples within the first four seconds of a song.
Some things never change.
